Abstract

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is a vital domestic fuel source, yet it poses significant safety risks regarding gas leakage and the inconvenience of sudden exhaustion. This project addresses these challenges through the design and construction of a smart LPG control, weight monitoring, and alert system. The primary aim of this study is to enhance household safety and user convenience by developing a system capable of real-time gas level monitoring, automated leak detection, and an integrated alert mechanism. The system architecture is built around a NodeMCU (ESP8266) microcontroller, which processes data from an MQ-2 gas sensor for leak detection and four load cells equipped with an HX711 amplifier for weight monitoring. The design also incorporates a communication unit utilizing Wi-Fi and GSM modules, alongside an actuation unit comprising a solenoid valve, expeller fan, and buzzer. The implementation and testing of the system yielded successful results. When gas concentrations exceeded the safety threshold of 200 ppm, the system automatically triggered an audible alarm, activated the expeller fan for ventilation, shut off the gas supply via the solenoid valve, and sent simultaneous alert notifications to the user through WhatsApp. Furthermore, the weight monitoring functionality accurately measured the remaining gas volume, displaying the status on an LCD and utilizing a multi-colored LED system (green, amber, and red) to visually indicate gas levels and alert the user when a refill was necessary. This project concludes that this smart system provides a practical, affordable, and reliable solution for mitigating gas leak dangers and managing domestic LPG usage.
