DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF A BATTERY – POWERED TREADMILL MACHINE
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This project presents the design and fabrication of a battery-powered treadmill machine aimed at promoting sustainable fitness solutions in areas where the high cost and unavailable electricity power pose a problem to regular fitness. The treadmill will utilize eco-friendly materials to minimize environmental impact while providing an effective exercise platform. Key Objectives include enhancing portability through a battery-powered System, ensuring user engagement with customizable features, and integrating innovative design elements that challenge traditional treadmill Concepts. The project will encompass material selection, detailed design development, fabrication processes, and rigorous testing to ensure performance and safety. Ultimately, this initiative seeks to contribute positively to health and wellness while fostering sustainability awareness in fitness equipment. The power delivered to the treadmill belt of the machine is 1840W, with an efficiency of 80%. The weight range employed ranges between 40 kg to 100kg, while the speed categories are walking (3 km/h), jogging (6 km/h), and running (10 km/h). Power consumption increases linearly with weight, hence the analysis indicates that power increases with speed, from around 920W (walking) to 1840W (running). Heavier users require more power at all speeds and walking at a speed of 3 km/h consumes the least power, while running at the speed 10 km/h consumes the most. Heavier users cover less distance before the battery depletes. A 40 kg, user can cover approximately 8 km running, while a 100 kg user will approximately about 4.5 km. but walking allows the longest distance due to lower power consumption. The materials were sourced locally, hence, a reduction in the cost of production of one treadmill from those in the market to Three Hundred and Forty-seven Thousand Naira (N347,000.00) only. The total cost for one treadmill will be further reduced if mass-produced. The outcome aims is to inspire future innovations in the industry and promote a healthier lifestyle among users, with power consumption at a reduced cost.
