IMPACT OF COMPUTER BASED TESTED ON THE QUALITY 0F EDUCATION AND STUDENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AMONG KIU (A STUDY OF COMPUTER BASED TESTED AMONG KASHIM IBRAHIM UNIVERSITY)
Abstract
This study investigated the impact of Computer-Based Testing (CBT) on the quality of education and students’ academic achievement at Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU). The study also examined the challenges associated with CBT implementation and the perceptions of key stakeholders, including students, lecturers, and ICT staff. A descriptive survey research design was adopted, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to a sample drawn from the three groups of respondents. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, frequency distribution) and inferential statistics, including correlation analysis to test the research hypotheses.
Findings revealed that CBT has a significant positive impact on students’ academic achievement and the overall quality of education in the university. Respondents agreed that CBT enhances examination integrity, reduces examination malpractice, ensures timely result processing, and promotes fairness in assessment. However, the study also identified challenges such as poor power supply, inadequate ICT facilities, limited technical skills among some users, and occasional system failures.
The correlation analysis showed a significant positive relationship between the adoption of CBT and students’ academic performance, as well as between ICT infrastructure and the effectiveness of CBT implementation. Based on the findings, the study recommends increased investment in ICT facilities, regular training for staff and students, and strengthening technical support systems to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of CBT at Kashim Ibrahim University.
