Abstract

This project presents the design and construction of a 1.5kva pure sine wave inverter. The design employs Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique controlled by a PIC18F45K22 microcontroller to generate high-quality AC output. The system comprises several integrated subsystems including a power supply section, microcontroller-based control circuit, IR2110 driver stage, H-bridge power stage with eight IRF3205 MOSFETs, step-up transformer, LC output filter, and comprehensive protection circuits. The system incorporates comprehensive protection circuits including overcurrent, short circuit, over-temperature, and low battery voltage cutoff. This project successfully demonstrates that high-performance pure sine wave inverters can be designed and manufactured locally in Nigeria, matching or exceeding international standards while offering significant cost advantages over imported alternatives. The work contributes to energy access solutions, import substitution opportunities, and technological self-reliance.
