DEVELOPMENT OF A GEO-FENCED BASED HOSTEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
Abstract
A hostel is a living facility providing students with a safe and comfortable study environment. However, when it accommodates many students, typically 600 or more, it encounters specific challenges that can affect the efficiency of operations and the quality of life for its students. Individual institutions manage each hostel with oversight from staff members, such as hostel wardens. According to a study by (Abishek and Ruban, 2024), in an age where automation prevails, relying on manual systems is typically unwise, particularly in settings that demand efficiency, precision, and the ability to scale. This holds especially true for hostel management, where the intricacy of tasks, such as assigning rooms, processing student check-ins and check-outs, managing maintenance requests, and handling inventory, can quickly overwhelm a manual approach. Various studies have examined the implementation of a digital hostel management system and have illustrated its potential to enhance operational efficiency and improve residents’ experiences.
