Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of the study is to determine the phytochemicals and trace elements content of neem (Azadirachta Indica) root bark aqueous extract sourced from three different locations. Phytochemical contents of neem root bark aqueous extract from different locations within Girei metropolis. Phytochemical such as saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, glycosides and phenols were present while steroids were absent in all locations and terpenoids were absent in sabon gari and MAU gate, then presnt in Girei. (Table1). The results of the trace element concentration in the Neem root bark as compared that is found from the various locations are given in Tables 2. Shows that MAU gate, Girei and Sabon gari has indicated the highest concentrations of Zn (4.66mg/kg, 6.01mg/kg and 5.30mg/kg respectively), Cadmium is in higher concentration in Sabon gari (0.08mg/kg) than both MAU Gate and Girei. The lead content was same in all locations. The results of this study have indicated the presence of phytochemicals such as saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, the elements analyzed at varying concentration in samples of Neem root-bark within the aforementioned areas
