EXAMINE THE CAUSES AND EFFECT OF POOR HOUSING CONDITION IN DAMATURU METROPOLIST
Abstract
This study examines the major causes and effects of poor housing conditions in Damaturu Metropolis. The research was carried out to understand the factors responsible for the housing challenges faced by many residents and how these challenges affect their wellbeing. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, and observations within selected areas of the metropolis. The findings revealed that rapid population growth, low household income, poor urban planning, inadequate government investment in housing, and the use of substandard building materials are the major causes of poor housing conditions in Damaturu. The study also shows that these poor housing conditions expose residents to health risks such as malaria, respiratory infections, and increased stress levels. Other effects include overcrowding, environmental degradation, and low quality of life. Based on the findings, the study recommends improved government support in affordable housing provision, better enforcement of building regulations, and increased public awareness on proper housing development. The study concludes that addressing housing challenges will significantly improve the living standard of residents and contribute to sustainable urban development in Damaturu Metropolis.
