THE INCIDENCE OF TYPHOID FEVER AND MALARIA PARASITE AMONG CUSTOM HOUSE IDPS CAMP AND EYN CAMP, MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE.
Abstract
This study assessed the incidence of typhoid fever and malaria parasite infection among residents of Custom House and E.Y.N IDP Camps in Maiduguri, Borno State. Blood samples (5 ml) were collected from participants and screened using the Widal agglutination test for typhoid and malaria Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) kits for malaria parasite detection. Results showed that the prevalence of typhoid fever was 65% in Custom House Camp and 85% in E.Y.N Camp. Malaria prevalence was 40% in Custom House and 75% in E.Y.N Camp. The high prevalence of both infections highlights the need for improved sanitation, clean water supply, enhanced disease surveillance, and vector‑control interventions. The findings provide evidence for policy recommendations aimed at reducing disease burden in IDP settings.
