MASS COMMUNICATION STUDENTS’ USE OF TIKTOK AND SNAPCHAT: A STUDY OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC BAUCHI
Abstract
The rapid development of social media platforms has significantly influenced communication patterns among students. This study examines the use of TikTok and Snapchat among Mass Communication students of Federal Polytechnic Bauchi. The research investigates the frequency of use, purposes of use, and the influence of these platforms on students’ communication habits and academic activities. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through questionnaires distributed to selected students in the Department of Mass Communication. The findings revealed that most students frequently use TikTok and Snapchat mainly for entertainment, social interaction, and information sharing. However, the study also found that excessive use may negatively affect students’ academic concentration. The study concludes that while TikTok and Snapchat serve as useful platforms for communication and creativity, students should regulate their usage to maintain academic productivity.
