AWARENESS ON PREVENTION OF ANAEMIA AMONG PREGNANT WOMEN IN IRETE PRIMARY HEALTH CENTRE, IMO STATE
Abstract
Worldwide it is estimated that about half of all pregnant women are anaemic. In Nigeria, the
incidence of pregnant women with anaemia has increased and this accounts for about 20% of
maternal mortality. This study therefore sought to investigate the awareness on prevention of
anaemia in pregnant women in Irete Owerri west local government area (LGA), Imo State. A
descriptive cross-sectional study will be carried out among 160 pregnant women in Irete to
determine their knowledge and awareness on the risk and prevention of anaemia in pregnancy.
Self-constructed questionnaire by the researcher will be used for data collection. The data will
be descriptively summarized with the use of frequency, percentages, and mean for statistical
analysis. Socio-demographic characteristics of the respondents will be presented in tables and
associations between independent variables such as age, marital status and occupation and the
dependent variable knowledge of risk of anaemia will be examined.
