Abstract

Solar energy is rapidly gaining traction as a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy source, particularly in regions with high solar irradiance. However, the efficiency and reliability of solar power systems are heavily influenced by environmental variables. Among the most critical components in a photovoltaic (PV) system is the solar inverter, which is responsible for converting the DC electricity generated by solar panels into usable AC electricity. This project investigates the impact of temperature and weather conditions such as humidity, rainfall, cloud cover, and ambient temperature on the performance of solar inverters. Using a comprehensive literature review, experimental reports, and data analysis from real-life installations, this study outlines how these factors influence inverter efficiency, functionality, and longevity. The findings reveal that high temperatures can cause efficiency drops and trigger thermal protection mechanisms in inverters, while excessive humidity and rain can lead to internal corrosion and component failure. Cloud cover introduces frequent variations in irradiance that affect voltage stability and inverter tracking capabilities. The study also explores various mitigation strategies such as thermal management systems, proper inverter housing, and predictive maintenance practices. In conclusion, weather and temperature conditions significantly affect solar inverter performance, and understanding these impacts is critical to optimizing energy output and improving the overall reliability of solar power systems.
