PHYTOCHEMICALS AND HISTOPATHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF WEANERS RABBITS FED DIFFERENT PARTS OF (WILD MELON) ADENOPUS BREVIFLORUS MEALS
Abstract
The study was conducted at the Rabbitry unit of the Teaching and Research farm in the Department of Animal Science, Akwa Ibom State University to determine the phytochemicals and histopathological Assessment of some internal organs (liver, kidney and lungs) of weaners rabbits fed with different parts of Adenopus breviflorus (wild melon) leaf and whole pod meal. The study lasted for 8 weeks (56 days). Three experimental diets were formulated for the experiment, with an inclusion level of 0%,10%, and 10% of Adenopus breviflorus whole pod meal and Adenopus breviflorus leaf meal treatments for treatments 1,2and 3 respectively. Treatment one served as the control diet without any part of the Adenopus breviflorus added and leave meal. The experimental animals were randomly assigned to 3 treatments group in a completely randomized design (CRD). At the end of the feeding trial, 3 rabbits in each treatment were slaughtered and their internal organs (liver, kidney and lungs) harvested to be used for histopathological studies. The results of the Phytochemical screening of Adenopus leaf and whole pod meal shows that there were no significant (p
