PATIENTS’ PERCEPTION AND SATISFACTION WITH THE PHARMACEUTICAL CARE PROVIDED AT THE OUT-PATIENT PHARMACY OF MADONNA UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL, ELELE, RIVERS STATE
Abstract
BACKGROUND: Pharmacists play a major role in serving patients and delivering pharmaceutical care services to the patients which is a philosophy and patient-centered model of pharmacy practice. Therefore, Evaluation of patient’s perception and satisfaction with the quality of pharmaceutical care services rendered at the hospital pharmacy is important to identify the gaps in the current pharmaceutical service delivery and specific areas of the service that needs improvement in achieving high-quality pharmaceutical care services.
AIM: To assess patient’s perception and satisfaction towards quality of pharmaceutical care services provided at the out-patient clinics pharmacy of Madonna University Teaching Hospital (MUTH) Elele, Rivers State, Nigeria.
METHODS: A cross-sectional study design was used and the study was carried out in the outpatient pharmacy of Madonna University Teaching Hospital from May 2023–July 2023. Participants were selected by a convenient sampling technique and a structured questionnaire was used to assess patients’ perception, knowledge and satisfaction towards the quality of pharmaceutical care services provided by the pharmacy the data collected was statistically analyzed and presented in percentage distribution.
