Abstract

The in-person voting system in the universities may be tainted with inefficiency and insecurity. The current project is the solution to the mentioned problems; the project entails the establishment of an online voting system at Godfrey Okoye University. The platform will allow distant voting (students and staff) to be fair, transparent, and user-friendly. State of the art security features such as secure log-in, and live vote tallies eliminate the risk factor of the traditional voting systems. Using online voting system, the principle of accessibility, trust and inclusiveness is enhanced since the online voting system offers a more reasonable platform of taking part in the electoral process. The project improves the quality of student and staff interaction which facilitates more representative system of university governance with the help of technology. The system aspect of real time vote count is precise, swift and it helps to save on the time and agony to declare the outcome of the elections. The system can build on the voter turnout by offering a less demanding and credible way of participation resulting in a more participatory process. The consequences of the project are not related to the technical dimension only as the project will add to the creation of a more democratic and participatory atmosphere at the university.
