DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A WEB-BASED RESULT PROCESSING SYSTEM (A CASE STUDY ON RENAISSANCE UNIVERSITY, NIGERIA)
Abstract
Accurate and timely processing of student results is essential to the smooth operation of any higher institution. At Renaissance University, the current approach relies heavily on spreadsheets and semi-automated processes, which often lead to errors, delays, and challenges in managing growing volumes of academic data. This project focuses on the design and implementation of a web-based result processing system specifically developed to address these challenges. A hybrid methodology combining Object-Oriented Analysis and Design with the Waterfall framework was adopted to ensure the development process remained well-structured, modular, and easy to maintain. The system was built using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to deliver a user-friendly platform that automates result computation, grade validation, and online result access. Role-based access controls for lecturers, and students help safeguard data integrity and ensure secure operations. Testing confirmed the system’s ability to process results accurately and efficiently, offering significant improvements in speed and reliability compared to the previous method. This project demonstrates that a centralized web-based result processing system can greatly enhance result management, reduce administrative effort, and improve service delivery to both students and staff.
