SOLAR ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEM
Abstract
This project looks at the creation of a solar energy storage system intended to give the Federal University of Petroleum Resources' Mechanical Engineering labs a dependable energy supply. The system's integrated solar panel and battery storage configuration guarantees constant power supply. A 5.5KVA inverter to transform stored DC energy into AC power, a 5.12kWh lithium-ion battery with specifications of 25.6V and 200Ah, and 12 solar panels, each rated at 450W and connected in series, make up this system.
The report explains the solar energy storage system's working principles, with a focus on the charging and discharging procedures of the lithium-ion battery. The benefits of lithium-ion technology for renewable energy applications are highlighted through a discussion of important battery parameters like capacity, cycle life, and efficiency. The system's capacity for energy generation and storage is estimated by a thorough theoretical study and simulation results. The battery ensures optimal performance and avoids overcharging or deep draining by operating within a voltage range of 20V (discharged state) to 29.2V (totally charged state).
Under moderate load levels, the system's 4.096kWh useable battery can provide electricity for almost 2 hours. According to the results, the system effectively satisfies the laboratories' energy needs while storing excess energy for use during times when solar generation is low, providing consistent and dependable power availability.
