Abstract

This project presents the design and implementation of an Online Barcode Attendance System aimed at improving the accuracy, efficiency, and reliability of student attendance management in educational institutions. Traditional attendance methods such as manual signing and roll-calling are time-consuming, prone to manipulation, and often result in inaccurate records. To address these challenges, the proposed system integrates barcode technology with a web-based platform to automate attendance capture and ensure real-time data processing. In this system, each student is assigned a unique barcode embedded in their identification card. When scanned, the system automatically verifies the student’s identity, records their attendance status, and stores the information in a centralized database. The system further enhances communication by sending instant SMS notifications to parents or guardians whenever a student is marked absent or late. This feature promotes accountability and strengthens collaboration between schools and families. The system was developed using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL, following a structured System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology. Testing results show that the platform successfully automates attendance recording, reduces human error, eliminates proxy attendance, and provides a reliable means of tracking student participation. Overall, the Online Barcode Attendance System offers a modern, secure, and user-friendly solution for academic attendance management. It improves institutional efficiency, enhances data integrity, and provides timely feedback to stakeholders, making it a valuable tool for educational enviroment
