PHYTOCHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND LARVIDAL ACTIVITY OF AQUEOUS LEAVES EXTRACT OF CALOTROPIS PROCERA AGAINST CULEX QUINQUEFACIATUS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the phytochemical composition and larvicidal acitivity of aqueous leaves extract of calotropis procera against quinquefaciatus. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavoloids, tannins, saponins, and phenol. The larvicidal activity was evaluated at varying concentrations (10-50%) and expose times (1-24 hours). Results showed concentration-dependent and time dependent larvicidal activity, with mortality raes ranging from 1.00% to 5.00%. The optimal concentration and exposure time for larvicidal activity were 50% and 24 hours, respectively. These findings suggest thst calotropis procera aqueous leaf extract is a potential natural larvicide for controlling culex quinquefaciatus populations, offering an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic insecticides.
