DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A LOAN MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (USING RENAISSANCE UNIVERSITY COOPERATIVE AS A CASE STUDY)
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Cooperative societies have emerged as key financial intermediaries, particularly in rural and underserved communities, where access to formal banks remains limited. Despite their importance, many cooperatives still rely on manual methods for handling loan applications, approvals, disbursements, and repayments. This often results in operational inefficiencies, such as, data inconsistency, delayed decision-making, and difficulty in tracking loan performance over time.
To address these challenges, this project developed a robust web-based loan management system (LMS) tailored specifically to the operational needs of cooperative societies. The system was designed to automate loan-related activities, improve data accuracy, and promote financial transparency within the cooperative environment. The Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) model was adopted due to its structured and sequential nature, which aligns with defined scope and academic requirements of the study. Development was implemented using HTML, CSS and JavaScript for the frontend, while PHP and MYSQL powered the backend and database components.
The result shows that the proposed system enable administrators to monitor loan activities in real time, manage user accounts, generate member-specific loan histories, and produce timely reports such amortization schedules and defaulters’ lists. For members, the platform provides a secure portal to apply for loans, track application status, check repayment progress and access account summaries. It also enforces loan eligibility criteria and automatically computes interest rates based on user-defined parameters.
In conclusion, the system enhances efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in loan management, thereby ensuring that cooperative members are served more effectively.
