Abstract

This study examined the impact of digital transformation on business operations at Zenith Bank, Agbor branch, Delta State, Nigeria. The research was motivated by the need to understand how digital transformation initiatives translate into operational improvements in the Nigerian banking sector, particularly given persistent challenges despite substantial technological investments. Using a descriptive survey research design, the study surveyed 142 respondents comprising bank staff across various departments including operations, customer service, information technology, and marketing. The study employed a quantitative approach utilizing structured questionnaires to collect primary data on three key dimensions of digital transformation: digital banking tools, digital platforms, and digital competency, and their effects on business operations. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 25, employing descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis to test the research hypotheses. The findings revealed that all three digital transformation dimensions significantly impact business operations. Digital banking tools demonstrated the strongest positive effect (β = 0.465, p < 0.001), followed by digital platforms (β = 0.357, p < 0.001), and digital competency (β = 0.171, p < 0.002). The regression model explained 67.8% of the variance in business operations (R² = 0.678), indicating substantial explanatory power. All null hypotheses were rejected, confirming significant positive relationships between digital transformation dimensions and business operations. The study concluded that digital transformation significantly enhances business operations through improved efficiency, service delivery, and overall performance. However, areas for improvement were identified, particularly in digital platform optimization and staff competency development. The research contributes empirical validation of digital transformation theories in the Nigerian banking context and provides practical guidance for banking executives on prioritizing digital investments. Future research should employ longitudinal designs and explore mediating factors to deepen understanding of digital transformation mechanisms in banking operations.
