ESTIMATION OF THE POSITION OF THE FLUID FRONT FOR WATERFLOODING PROJECT
Abstract
In the oil and gas sector, waterflooding is a popular secondary recovery technique used to improve hydrocarbon recovery from reservoirs. In order to push the residual oil towards producing wells, water is injected into the reservoir. The effective displacement of oil by the injected water is essential to the success of a waterflood project, necessitating a thorough comprehension of sweep efficiency and its different forms. Therefore, the calculation of the fluid front's position at a fixed saturation for a waterflooding project is the main emphasis of this study. By estimating the fluid front for a waterflooding project, the project uses Microsoft Excel to calculate and forecast the project's performance. Based on data collected from a typical oil field, the study's findings indicate that the water cut at the front is 80% and the water saturation at the front is 59%, or the value at which the waterfront's leading edge is stabilized. As the waterflooding progresses over time (45, 90, 120, and 180 days), the position of the injected water front shows that the more water we inject into the reservoir to sweep the oil towards the producer, the more the water continues to advance until it breaks through at the producer. Vigilance is required at this point to prevent viscous fingering, a phenomenon in which the front will have a leading edge. As a result, the water injection scheme works well with moderate water injection, which includes keeping an eye on all crucial water injection parameters, such as the water drive front's advancement speed and water injection pressure, to support natural energy while simultaneously enhancing oil recovery. Additionally, early water breakthrough, water cut, and early production energy loss are prevented by the controlled processes. With an early, well-thought-out strategy and prompt control of water injection pressure and displacement, more petroleum can be produced from the rock matrix.
