Abstract

ABSTRACT This research work was conducted to ascertain the error analysis of English concord of undergraduate students in Nigeria. The study examined the grammatical mistakes in concord usage among university students. The population of the study comprises all the regular students of Lagos State University of Education, Epe Campus. The sample of the study consists one hundred (100) regular students selected through stratified sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a 15-item questionnaire. Data obtained from the instrument was analysed using mean (averages) and percentages. The findings revealed that error analysis of English concord affects undergraduate students’ reading and writing ability. Based on the findings, the study recommended that, universities should integrate intensive grammar courses. Students should engage in frequent writing and speaking exercises to reinforce proper grammar. Modern teaching techniques, including digital grammar checkers and language apps, should be utilized. Strategies to reduce mother tongue interference through contrastive analysis should be implemented. Regular assessments and personalized feedback should be provided to correct grammatical errors. These measures will improve students’ proficiency in English concord usage.
