INFORMATION REVOLUTION: A STUDY ON THE INFLUENCE OF SOCIAL MEDIA ON THE LIFESTYLE OF AJAYI CROWTHER UNDERGRADUATES
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the influence of social media on the lifestyle of Ajayi Crowther University undergraduates in the context of the information revolution. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from 350 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Findings revealed that 96% of students used social media, with WhatsApp, YouTube, and Instagram as the most preferred platforms. The average daily usage ranges from 3–4 hours, with peak activity before bedtime and upon waking.
Results indicate that while social media serves as a tool for learning, communication, and cultural exposure, it also presents challenges such as distraction, procrastination, and reduced real-life interaction. The study recommends digital literacy education, effective time management, and mental health support to promote healthy online engagement.
