Abstract

ABSTRACT Industrial accidents remain a significant concern in manufacturing organizations where workers operate heavy machinery, chemicals, and complex production equipment. These accidents often lead to injuries, psychological trauma, financial losses, and reduced productivity within the organization. This study investigates the effect of industrial accidents on the productivity of workers with a particular focus on located in Aba, Abia State, Nigeria. The primary objective of the study is to examine the relationship between workplace accidents and the efficiency of workers in industrial environments. The research also seeks to identify the common causes of industrial accidents, evaluate the level of safety awareness among employees, and determine the effectiveness of safety management practices within the organization. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Data were collected using structured questionnaires distributed among employees working in different departments within the organization. The responses obtained were analyzed using statistical tools such as frequency distribution and percentage analysis. The findings revealed that industrial accidents negatively affect worker productivity by causing absenteeism, reducing morale, increasing operational costs, and disrupting production schedules. It was also discovered that inadequate safety training, negligence, poor maintenance of equipment, and lack of protective gear contribute significantly to the occurrence of industrial accidents. The study concludes that improving workplace safety practices, implementing strict safety policies, and providing regular training programs can significantly reduce industrial accidents and improve the productivity of workers. The research recommends that organizations should invest in modern safety equipment, establish effective safety monitoring systems, and encourage a culture of safety consciousness among employees.
