Abstract

ABSTRACT Employee motivation remains one of the most significant determinants of organizational productivity and long-term institutional success. Financial incentives have traditionally been used by organizations as a strategic tool to encourage workers to improve their performance and commitment. This study examines the effect of financial motivation on workers’ performance in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The research investigates the relationship between financial rewards such as salaries, bonuses, allowances, and incentive packages and the level of productivity among employees. The study adopts a descriptive research design and utilizes primary data collected through questionnaires distributed among selected employees of NNPC. The findings reveal that financial motivation significantly influences employees’ efficiency, job satisfaction, commitment, and overall performance. Results indicate that workers who perceive their compensation as fair and motivating tend to demonstrate higher levels of dedication, innovation, and productivity. Conversely, inadequate financial incentives may reduce morale and lead to reduced organizational commitment. The study concludes that financial motivation plays a critical role in shaping employee attitudes and behaviors within the workplace. The research recommends that NNPC management adopt more transparent and competitive compensation structures, improve incentive schemes, and regularly review employee welfare packages to maintain high productivity levels. Proper financial motivation strategies can therefore serve as a powerful management tool for improving workforce performance and organizational effectiveness.
