ABSTRACT Street trading is a common economic activity in many urban centers of Nigeria, especially around markets where high pedestrian movement creates a favorable business environment. Along Bukuru kugiya market in jos, plateau state, street trading has become increasingly prevalent, raising concerns about its implications for pedestrian safety. this study examines the effect of street trading on the safety of pedestrian along the Bukuru kugiya market corridor. Data were collected through field observations and structured questionnaires administered to traders, pedestrians, and transport operators , pedestrians 70, street traders 20, local authorities 10 making total of 100 questionnaires , percentage return 17.8,73.3,8.9 .the study findings reveal that street trading significantly contributes to walkway obstruction, reduced visibility, pedestrian vehicle conflicts, and overall congestion. Improper placement of stalls, encroachment on road shoulders, and the absence of designated trading spaces further increase accident risks, the research concludes that street trading has a measurable negative impact on pedestrian safety in the study area and recommends the provision of designated trading zone, enforcement of urban planning regulations, improved pedestrian facilities, and continuous public awareness to enhance safety and maintain orderly movement within the market environment.
