Abstract

his study 1s on the application of Thaumatococcus daniellii leaf extract as orrosion inhibitor agent for mild steel. The effect of Thaumatococcus daniellii ‘af extract on mild steel corrosion in 1.0 M HCI and 3.0 M KOH was evaluated sing potentiodynamic polarization technique at 303K. Scanning electron ricroscopy (SEM) was used to study the adsorption of the inhibitor on the mild teel surface. Potentiodynamic polarization results revealed that Thaumatococcus aniellii leaf extract. Functioned as a mixed type inhibitor. Thermodynamic arameters obtained indicated that Thaumatococcus daniellii leaf extract was dsorbed on the steel surface by a physiochemical process and obeyed Langmuir dsorption isotherm. The results showed that addition of the inhibitor effectively educed the. corrosion rate of the metal alloys due to the adsorption on the metal urface. The optical inhibiting efficiency of the Thaumatococcus daniellii leaf xtract was 56.0 and 89.4 in HCI and 46.1 and 60.4 in KOH.
