EFFECT OF GEOMETRY AND BAFFLE ON OIL WATER DISPERSION COEFFICIENT
Abstract
Small scale replica of the gravity separator in FRONTIER oil and gas industry at Esit Eket, in Akwa Ibom State, as modelled in the laboratory using a rectangular glass separator model. The model oil water separators were used in predicting the hydrodynamics as well as determining the separator hydraulic parameter and separator geometry and baffle location that produces optimum efficiency, the length, width, flow rate and baffle position were varied and reults shows that baffle generally increases the detention time of particles in a separator. Baffle position of 2.7m and 3.1m for separator of length 3.2m and 3.6m respectively prodyced the best result. In general, the length of 3.6m gives better efficiency and dispersion coefficient. It thus recommended that baffles should be placed as far as possible from the inlet. This will help in increasing the detention time for a greater volume of the fluid and hence enhance the rise rate of oil from water.
