Abstract

The study was aimed at investigating the modulatory effect of methanolic extract of Aidan fruit on card ovascular factor using oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation Biomarkers in Wistar rats. Fificen (15) male Wistar rats weighing (90-150g) were used for the study. The rats where selected according to their body weight and divide into three (3) groups containing five (5) Wistar rats each. Group | was normal control group and was fed with normal rat feed and 0.2m. of distilled water, Group 2 was administered with low dose (LD) methanolic extract of Aidan fruit 400mg/kg. while Group © was administered with high doe (HD) methanolic extract of Aidan fruit 800mg/kg using oropharyngeal cannulas. All the animals had free access to food and water. The administration was carried out every day tor the period of 14 days after which the animals were sacrificed. The SOD. CAT. MDA and LDH were used as biomarkers for oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation. The dats obtained was subjected 10 statistical analysis using ANOVA. The result showed no significant difference in SOD concentration across the three (3) groups, though there was a marginal increase within the low and high dose methanolic extract of Aidan fruit groups as compared to control group. Catalase (CAT) activity showed a significant increase (p
