Abstract

This project, titled "Bacteriological Quality Assessment and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of Bacterial Isolates from Bosu Borehole Water" , assessed the microbiological safety of a vital water source at Borno State University. The Introduction established the public health concern regarding contaminated borehole water and emerging antibiotic resistance. The Literature Review confirmed that microbial contamination is widespread in Nigerian boreholes. Materials and Methods detailed the use of the Most Probable Number (MPN) technique and biochemical tests (e.g., IMViC, TSI) for identification. The Results and Discussion revealed that some samples exceeded WHO permissible MPN limits , and the bacterial contaminants identified were the opportunistic pathogens Enterobacter aerogenes and Klebsiella pneumoniae , with no detection of E. coli. The Summary, Conclusion, and Recommendations section concluded that the water is prone to contamination and is not entirely safe for direct consumption, strongly recommending routine monitoring, treatment (e.g., chlorination), and infrastructure improvements
