Abstract

ABSTRACT The “Perception of Climate Change And Adaptation Strategies Adopted By Tomatoes Farmers In Jere Local Government Area”The main objective of this study is to investigate the perception of, and adaptation to climate change by the millet farmers in Jere Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State. The specific objectives of the study are to examine the socio-economic characteristics of the millet farmers in the study area, to examine the perception of climate change by the millet farmers LGA. to identity the adaptation strategies adopted by the respondents in the study area. And to identify the problems faced by the millet farmers. Both primary and secondary information were used for the study. Primary data were obtained using structured questionnaire. Farmers that cannot read and write in English will be interviewed. Secondary information was obtained from websites, Ministry of Agriculture offices, past projects, textbooks and journals. A multi-stage sampling procedure will be used for the study. The first stage will involve the random selection of four wards out of 11 in Jere Local Government, namely. The second stage will involve the random selection of three villages from the selected wards. The third stage will involve the selection of five respondents from the selected villages. Thus, a total of 60 farmers will be drawn for the study. Analytical techniques encompass a broad range of methods used to examine data, solve problems, and make informed decisions. These can include statistical analysis, data mining, machine learning, and various modeling techniques like regression analysis or clustering. Each technique has its strengths and weaknesses, often tailored to specific types of data or questions being addressed. Tools that was used for this study include descriptive statistics and a five-point Likert-type scale Descriptive statistics involving the use of measures of central tendency such as mean, frequency distribution and percentages was used to achieve specific objectives (i, iii and iv). The recommendation of the study are based on the findings. To provide climate information to establish a climate information dissemination system to provide farmers with timely and accurate climate information. Promote climate-resilient agricultural practices to encourage farmers to adopt climate-resilient agricultural practices, such as agroforestry and conservation agriculture. Provide financial support system to provide farmers with access to credit and other financial resources to invest in adaptation strategies. Conduct capacity building programs to enhance farmers' knowledge and skills in climate-resilient agricultural practices and to develop and disseminate climate-resilient tomato varieties to farmers to enhance their resilience to climate change.
