IMPACT OF MONETARY POLICY ON THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF GUARANTEE TRUST BANK PLC
Abstract
This research project explores the impact of monetary policy on the financial performance of Guarantee Trust Bank Plc (GTBank), a prominent financial institution in Nigeria. Recognizing the critical role that monetary policy plays in shaping the economic environment, this study systematically analyzes various monetary policy instruments, including interest rates, reserve requirements, and liquidity measures, and their effects on GTBank's financial indicators such as return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE), and net interest margin. Utilizing quantitative methods, the research employs regression analysis to assess the relationship between changes in monetary policy and the bank’s financial performance over a specified period. The findings highlight the extent to which GTBank's profitability and operational efficiency are influenced by the Central Bank's monetary directives, providing insights into how banks can adapt to changing economic policies. The study contributes to the literature on banking performance and offers practical recommendations for stakeholders in the financial sector, suggesting strategies for optimizing financial outcomes in response to monetary policy shifts. Through this research, we aim to enhance understanding of the dynamic interplay between monetary policy and bank performance, particularly within the Nigerian banking context.
