PREVALENCE OF HIV INFECTION AND ABO BLOOD GROUP ANTIGEN AMONG ATTENDEES AT UMARU SHEHU ULTRA-MODERN HOSPITAL
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) remains a significant health concern globally. The relationship between HIV infection and ABO blood group antigens has been explored in various studies yielding conflicting results. This study was carried out using HIV rapid diagnostic test kit and ABO blood grouping system for 20 consenting attendees consisting of 3 (15%) males and 17 (85%)females at Umaru Shehu Ultra-Modern Hospital. The study population was based on different genders, ages, and departments. The result indicate that out of the 20 attendees tested, none were found to be HIV positive yielding a 0% prevalence rate. Therefore regular HIV prevalence studies should be conducted to monitor trends.
