Abstract

This study aimed to examine the evaluate the modulatory effect of garlic aqueous extract on serum electrolyte and concentration in wistar rats. Twenty 20 female wistar rats of body weight (90-150g) were used in this research work. The wistar rats were selected according to their body weight and divided into four (4) groups containing female wistar rats in each iron cage. All the wistar rats had free access to food and water. The wistar rats were grouped as follows;Group 1: Normal control group treated with only feed and 0.2ml of distilled water.Group ii: standard group treated with Metformin 200mg/kg. Group iii: Garlic extract high dose group treated with 0.6ml/100g x body weight of the animals 600mg/kg. Group IV: Garlic extract low dose group treated with 0.3/100 x body weight of the animals 300mg/kg. From the result, there was no significant difference among the control group and the test groups of garlic extract. From the result, there was significant increase (p< 0.05) compared to the control group and the test groups of garlic extract. From the result, there was no significant difference among the control group and the test groups of garlic extract. From the result, there was no significant difference among the control group and the test groups of garlic extract. In conclusion, this research study showed that administration of garlic extract indicates that garlic may not significantly alter the levels of sodium and potassium, chloride, and bicarbonate suggesting that garlic may safely support health without disrupting electrolyte balance.
