EFFECT OF ORGANIC MANURE ON GROWTH AND YIELD OF CUCUMBER
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study determine the effect of organic manure on the growth and yield of cucumber (Cucumis sativus). Organic manure, including Rabbit Faeces, Cow dung, Control and NPK , was applied at varying rates to assess its influence on plant height, number of leaves, Number of Flowers, and overall yield. A randomized complete block design (RCBD) was used for the experiment, with cucumber plants grown under identical conditions except for the type and amount of organic manure applied.
The results indicated that organic manure significantly improved the growth parameters and yield of cucumber compared to the control (without manure). Among the treatments, Cow Dung had the most pronounced positive effect, resulting in the highest plant height, number of leaves, and number of Fruits. Rabbit Faeces and NPK also enhanced growth and yield but to a higher extent than Control
The findings suggest that organic manure is a viable alternative to synthetic fertilizers for improving cucumber production, Cow dung manure being the most effective. This study highlights the potential for sustainable agricultural practices through the use of organic amendments to boost crop performance and yield. Further research is recommended to optimize the application rates and combinations of organic manures for different soil types and environmental conditions.
