Abstract

The Bima sandstone falls within the Yola arm of the upper Benue trough. The outcrops within the area are predominantly Bima Sandstone. The Bima Sandstone is dominantly a quartz Arenite occupying the base of the Cretaceous succession in both the upper Benue Trough and the Bomo Basin of Nigeria. The sediments were mainly derived from juxtaposed Basement suites of older granite and gneisses which were subjected to humid conditions that accelerated to weathering processes. The area investigated is located in Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State north eastern Nigeria. The area lies within longitude 11o 52′ 00″E to 11o 56′ 00″E and latitude 9o 51′ 00″ N to 9o 56′ 00″N on topographical map sheet 174 of Guyuk NE. Detailed geologic mapping was carried out within a total area of about 36 km2, in the north eastern flank of the Dadiya Syncline within the Yola arm of the Upper Benue Trough.
