ROLE OF SMALLAND MEDIUM ENTERPRISES DEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF NIGERIA (SMEDAN) ON SURVIVAL OF SMALL AND MEDIUM ENTREPRISES IN BDA METROPOLIS

The study Role of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) on Survival of Small and Medium Entreprises in Bida Metropolis. The objectives of this study are; to find out the extent of the awareness of the existence of SMEDAN by Small and Medium businesses on its business assistance mechanism, to assess the extent of the services provided by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria for the growth of Small and Medium enterprises in the Nigeria, to assess the extent of awareness of the Development and Enforcement of Entrepreneurship Development Policy for National Economic Development by Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of 200 employees from the various units. A sample size of 200 was chosen from Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) on Survival of Small and Medium Entreprises in Bida Metropolis for this study. To ensure that the sample was represented enough to draw conclusion. The simple random sampling technique was used to select respondents from the various units. The study will employ the use of Primary Source of Data. The study recommends that; it is recommended that entrepreneurs operating or intending to establish a business should seek assistance from. SMEDAN to develop and grow the business, it is also recommended that new enterprises be established with technical and managerial assistance from SMEDAN, lastly, it is recommended that entrepreneurs should approach other organizations and micro finance banks for assistance in enhancing production and marketing, SMEDAN should be encouraged with more funding to have Multi-functional Training/Business Incubation/ Assistance centers in each of' the geo-political zones of the country to cater for the millions of micro and small enterprises scattered across the country, there is the need for further staff training/capacity building for better service delivery, the creation of National Research Fund should be pressed for same to assist all public universities engage in research linked to the needs of the enterprise sector. Further clustering and .tags by business sectors should be encouraged as well as- further establishment of micro-common service offices and lastly the attachment of Alliance Research/Development firms should be encouraged immediately to engender new establishments, maintaining the established ones, and facilitate diversification.
