SECOND ORDER CONTROL ESTABLISHMENT FROM BALOGUN VILLAGE VIA IBRAHIM CHIATTA TO OLORUNDA VILLAGE, OYO WEST LOCAL GOVERNMENT OYO, OYO STATE
Abstract
This project presents the establishment of a second-order geodetic control network
extending from Balogun Village through Ibrahim Chatta Film Village to Olorunda Village in Oyo West Local Government, Oyo State. The primary objective was to provide a dependable, high-precision horizontal and vertical control framework to support cadastral mapping, engineering design, infrastructure development, and future geospatial surveys in the area.
Fieldwork combines static GNSS observations at selected control points with precise
spirit-leveling and total-station traversing to ensure both geocentric positional accuracy and local vertical consistency. Where available, CORS or nearby reference stations are
integrated to tie the network to national geodetic datums. Redundant observations and
intervisibility checks are implemented; observational schedules are designed to meet secondorder (class II) accuracy standards through repeated occupations and appropriate observation lengths. Data reduction includes baseline processing, least-squares network adjustment, closure-error analysis, and uncertainty estimation. Final coordinates (latitude, longitude, ellipsoidal and orthometric heights) and metadata will be produced in a standardized format with clear monument descriptions and stability assessments. The results were graphically represented using AutoCAD software on a scale 1:20,000. Results will deliver a reliable set of control points with documented coordinates and positional accuracies suitable for municipal planning, road and drainage design, and land administration. The project will also recommend monument protection measures, a maintenance schedule, and procedures for expanding the control network, thereby strengthening local surveying capacity and supporting sustainable development in Oyo West LGA.
