Abstract

This study investigates the effects of extract of kigelia africana leaf on serum electrolytes following cyclophosphamide induce anemia in Wistar rats. Twenty five (25) wistar rat were obtain from the animal holding unit and the anima were allowed to acclimatize for a period of seven days. In a way ventilated room at room temperature a relative humidity of 29°C and 70% relatively with 12 hours natural lights dark circle. Do we are allowed food and water ad libitum. Good hygiene was maintained by daily cleaning and removing of faece and spill their cages. The experimented rats we are randomly divided into five groups of five Rats each and we are treated for a period of 14 days. Group A: Normal control (NC). Group B: immune compromise rats (induced with cyclophosphamide) without treatment (immune compromise control). Group C: immune compromise rights treated with immunal (standard control). Group D: immune compromise that treated with 200mg/kg bwt aqueous leaf extract kigelia Africana extract (ALEKA1). Group E: Immune compromise rat with 400mg/kg Between aqueous leaf extract kigelia Africana extract (ALEKA2) for 14 days. there after The animals where anaesthetized and dissected And blood was collected by cardiac puncture using sterilized strings a needle for the assessment of serum electrolytes. The result below indicate effects of extra of kigelia Africana on serum electrolyte profile In cyclophosphamide induce immuno compromised on wistart rat. The extract of kigelia Africana significantly (P< 0.05) lower the serum Na+/Cl- and Cl- ion concentration at 200 and 400mg/kg bodyweight when compared with the normal and standard control. More so the extraction of kigelia Africana significantly (P< 0.05) increase serum Ca2+ when compared with the normal and standard control. It can be inferred from this work hat the extract of kigelia Africana may possibly trigger hyponatraemia and hypokalaemia in wistar rat
