Abstract

ABSTRACT The inefficiencies inherent in manual and paper-based administrative systems pose significant challenges to the operational effectiveness of educational institutions in Nigeria. Issues such as inaccurate record-keeping, delayed communication, protracted result computation, and poor stakeholder engagement continue to impede productivity and hinder data-driven decision making. To address these critical problems, this project designed, developed, and evaluated a cloud-based integrated school management system tailored for the Nigerian educational context. The system was architected using a modular approach and developed with a modern technology stack comprising React.js for the frontend, Node.js for the backend, and a MySQL database, all deployed on a cloud infrastructure. The design methodology followed the agile software development life cycle to ensure iterative development and the incorporation of user feedback. The implemented system features robust, role-based access control for four primary stakeholders: administrators, teachers, students, and parents. Its core functional modules encompass student registration, attendance monitoring, academic record management, fee tracking, and an integrated communication portal. A comprehensive evaluation of the system was conducted to assess its performance, usability, and impact on operational efficiency. Key metrics included system responsiveness, data processing accuracy, and user satisfaction gathered through structured testing and pilot deployment. The results demonstrated a significant improvement over traditional methods: the system achieved a 90% user satisfaction rate for interface intuitiveness, an 85% reduction in paperwork-related tasks, and the generation of complex reports and transcripts in under 30 seconds. In conclusion, this project successfully demonstrates that a well-designed cloud-based school management system can substantially enhance operational efficiency, transparency, and communication within Nigerian schools. The system provides a scalable, cost-effective, and secure solution that automates critical administrative processes, thereby allowing educators to focus more on pedagogical activities.
