IMPACT OF BURNOUT AND STRESS ON EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE
Abstract
This study examined the impact of burnout and stress on the work performance of employees at Access Bank Plc, Owo, Ondo State, Nigeria. The research aimed to determine how workload, job security, and work-life balance influence employee performance within the banking sector. A descriptive research design was adopted, and data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to all 22 employees of the bank through a census sampling technique. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis.
The findings revealed that work-life balance has a significant and positive effect on employee performance, indicating that employees who maintain a healthy balance between their work and personal lives tend to perform better. However, workload and job security were found to have no statistically significant effect on employee performance within the context of the study. The regression model showed that the selected variables explained a substantial proportion of the variation in employee performance.
The study concludes that work-life balance is a key factor influencing employee productivity and effectiveness in the banking sector. It therefore recommends that management of Access Bank Plc should implement policies that promote flexible working arrangements, reduce excessive work pressure, and encourage employee well-being in order to enhance performance and organizational productivity.
