ACCESSIBILITY OF BUILDINGS TO PEOPLE WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITIES IN MODIBBO ADAMA UNIVERSTY (MAU) YOLA,
Abstract
This study investigates the accessibility of buildings to individuals with physical disabilities at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, focusing on Lecture Theatres 5/6, Oba Adetona Hostel, Administrative Block, and the School Library. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines surveys, interviews, and observational checklists to assess the extent to which these facilities accommodate physically disabled individuals. Findings reveal significant barriers, including the absence of ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms, contravening the provisions of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act, 2018. The study underscores the urgent need for infrastructural modifications and policy enforcement to foster an inclusive academic environment.
