Abstract
ABSTRACT
This synopsis examines the architectural, cultural, and functional significance of Islamic cultural centres, with a focus on Ahmad Memorial Islamic Centre in Maradun, Zamfara State, Nigeria. Islamic cultural centres play a vital role in fostering religious devotion, cultural preservation, and community development. Through a case study approach, this research investigates the historical evolution, architectural features, and socio-cultural impacts of such centres. It highlights the integration of traditional Islamic design elements- such as domes, arches, and calligraphy with modern functionality to meet diverse community needs, including worship, education, and social welfare.
The study identifies key challenges faced by the Ahmad Memorial Islamic Centre, including maintenance constraints, overcrowding, and financial limitations, and proposes recommendations for improvement. These include enhancing sustainability, expanding facilities, and fostering community participation in design and operations. The findings offer valuable insights into the role of Islamic principles in shaping architectural spaces, emphasizing the need for culturally relevant and environmentally sustainable designs in future projects.
By exploring the intersection of faith, architecture, and community, this research contributes to the broader discourse on Islamic architecture and its role in contemporary society. It provides a framework for designing multifunctional Islamic cultural centres that align with both spiritual values and modern needs.
