Abstract

This study presents the design and fabrication of a wave generator utilizing a wedge system to generate controlled waves. The wave generator consists of a wedge with dimensions of 200mm in width, 250mm in height, with a slant height of 300mm, and 370mm in length. The wedge is positioned in a wave tank with dimensions of 455mm width, and 1910mm length. A wiper motor is employed to drive the wedge, and through a mechanical linkage, the motor’s rotational motion is converted into a harmonic reciprocating motion on the vertical axis. This motion causes the wedge to displace the fluid, generating waves with adjustable frequency and amplitude. The system allows for precise control over wave characteristics by varying the motor’s speed. The wedge’s geometry, in combination with the motor's motion, plays a key role in determining the wave height and frequency. This project aims to demonstrate the feasibility of using a wedge-based system for wave generation in laboratory and educational settings, offering a cost-effective solution for fluid dynamics studies and wave research. The design, construction, and testing of this system will provide valuable insights into wave behavior and the performance of wedge-driven wave generators.
