ORAL COMMUNICATION AS AN EFFECTIVE TOOL FOR EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE IN ORGANIZATION (A CASE STUDY OF GUARANTY TRUST BANK PLC, MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE)

ABSTRACT The study was on oral communication as an effective tool for employee performance in organization. The objectives of the study was to examine the communication systems in Guaranty Trust Bank Plc Maiduguri, to measure the performance of employee using Guaranty Trust Bank Plc Maiduguri appraisal indicators, to determine the relationship between effective organizational communication and employee performance, to identify the most useful channel of communication from employee point of view, the population is fifty seven (57) while sample is forty (40).Method of data analysis is statistical tool (mean) was used to analyzed data. The findings shows that; According to research questions it was discovered that internal memos, circulars, notices and reports, use of social networking site like twitter, use of E-mail are most adopted mean of communication, it is also discovered that use of modern office equipment by employee in organization has a positive impact on organizational performance. Fluency in language structure, grant incentive allowances and payment of salary improve level of performance of the secretaries in an organization, also discover effective communication by the employee resolves conflict, effective communication enhances employee job satisfaction, effective communication by employee improves industrial relationship. The recommendations are as follows employee performance can be further enhanced if bottlenecks in the communication systems are either removed or kept at their least, particularly, use of jargons must be addressed by both management and employee, there should be fewer jargons during communications, management should provide conducive working environment for an effective and efficient performance of employee, Modern equipment such as computers, telephones, teleconferencing, and video teleconferencing should be provided to enhance communication process, employee should endeavor to get better participate in seminar presentation and writing a report so as to enhance their communication skill.
