Abstract

The efficiency of solar panels is significantly influenced by the angle at which they are tilted and the orientation they face relative to the sun. This seminar explores the relationship between solar panel positioning and its effect on energy output, with a focus on understanding how geographical location, seasonal variations, and atmospheric conditions impact optimal tilt angles and orientation strategies. Using both theoretical principles and empirical findings, the study investigates solar irradiance patterns, sun path geometry, and photovoltaic system performance metrics. Case studies and simulation data, including those based on Nigerian locations, are incorporated to illustrate real- world applications. The research reveals that incorrect panel orientation or suboptimal tilt angles can result in a loss of up to 20–30% of potential solar energy output, especially in regions with consistent sun paths like Nigeria. Furthermore, the seminar discusses dynamic tracking systems versus fixed-angle setups, offering a comparative assessment of cost, complexity, and efficiency gains. Recommendations are made for optimal tilt and azimuth configurations to maximize efficiency based on latitude, with particular attention to local climatic conditions and shading. The findings of this work highlight the critical role of solar geometry in renewable energy system design and emphasize the need for tailored configurations to improve solar adoption and system performance, especially in developing regions seeking sustainable energy alternatives.
