Abstract

This study investigates the production of silica from rice husk, comparing boiled and unboiled samples to determine the optimal method for high-yield silica extraction. Rice husk, a readily available agricultural waste, is rich in silica. The effects of thermal treatment on silica yield, purity, and surface area were evaluated. Boiled and unboiled rice husk samples were subjected to chemical treatment. Silica extraction efficiency, purity, and surface area were analysed using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) methods. This study demonstrates that boiled rice husk is a more effective precursor for high-yield silica production. The findings have significant implications for the development of sustainable silica production methods from agricultural waste, contributing to reduced waste disposal issues and environmental pollution.
