SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL ORGANIZATIONS OF ABAVO KINGDOM: A HISTORICAL ANALYSIS
Abstract
This project dives into the heart of Abavo Kingdom, a vibrant community in the Ika-speaking part of Delta State, Nigeria. It explores how Abavo’s people lived, worked, and led their community through family ties, traditional leaders like the Obi, farming and crafts, and their spiritual beliefs. Using stories from local elders and books by historians, the study paints a clear picture of how Abavo’s way of life changed during British colonial rule and after Nigeria’s independence. Even with all these changes, Abavo’s traditions like their festivals and leadership still hold strong. The research shows that Abavo’s culture is alive and worth protecting
