Abstract

This project presents the design and development of an E-commerce platform specifically tailored for students of the Federal College of Animal Health and Production Technology (FCAH&PT). Research revealed that informal trading channels such as word-of-mouth, bulletin boards, and scattered social media groups lack transparency, scalability, and efficiency, which directly mirrors the current challenges faced by students at the College. The primary objective of this platform is to create a digital space where students can conveniently buy, sell, advertise and promote goods and services within the institution’s community. The system bridges the gap between student vendors and buyers by offering a centralized, user-friendly interface that supports product listing, shop creation, order processing, and communication. Using modern web technologies, the platform was developed with an emphasis on responsiveness, security, and ease of navigation to enhance user experience. It integrates search and filtering functions to help users quickly locate desired items, while providing real-time updates on product availability and pricing. Secure authentication ensures that only verified students can list or purchase items, fostering trust among participants. Through this system, students can explore entrepreneurship while buyers can enjoy seamless access to products ranging from academic materials and fashion items to food and personal services. The platform also encourages digital literacy and business growth among student users by embedding these features into the College marketplace. By enabling easy product promotion and direct buyer-seller communication, it nurtures negotiation skills, pricing strategy awareness, and customer service competence. Your project will address the exact pain points students face high costs, lack of visibility, distrust, and inconvenient trading channels while strengthening the campus community and fostering entrepreneurial skills. The project was developed using a combination of Next.JS and Type-Script with a PostgreSQL database to manage and store user and product data. Additional measures such as optimized database queries and image compression techniques were implemented to ensure fast load times even with multiple concurrent users. The system was tested with a sample user base to ensure reliability and usability, with feedback indicating strong interest in adoption. The outcome shows that a web-based marketplace can significantly improve campus trade activities, boost student business visibility, and support economic empowerment within the student body, ultimately creating a sustainable and connected student economy at College.
