DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN EMERGENCY DATA INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR ROAD ACCIDENTS VICTIMS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Road traffic accidents remain a major cause of injuries and fatalities worldwide, particularly in
developing countries where emergency response systems often face significant challenges. One of
the major difficulties encountered during accident situations is the inability of victims to
communicate vital personal and medical information such as their identity, blood group, medical
conditions, allergies, and emergency contact details. This lack of immediate access to critical
information can delay medical treatment and increase the risk of complications or death.
Therefore, this project focuses on the design and implementation of an emergency data
information system for road accident victims to assist emergency responders and healthcare
professionals in accessing important medical information quickly. The system was designed using
a microcontroller-based embedded system architecture that integrates an Arduino Uno
microcontroller, RFID identification module, memory storage unit, LCD display, input interface,
and power supply unit. The RFID module was used to uniquely identify individuals through RFID
tags, while the microcontroller processes the identification data and retrieves the corresponding
emergency information stored in memory. The retrieved information is then displayed on a 16×2
LCD display to enable emergency personnel to quickly access the victim’s medical data. The
system software was developed using the Arduino Integrated Development Environment (IDE)
with programming logic written in C/C++ language to control the interaction between hardware
components. Before hardware implementation, system simulation and logical testing were
conducted to verify the correct operation of the design. The simulation results showed that the
system successfully detected RFID tags, retrieved stored emergency data, and displayed the
information accurately. Following successful simulation, the system was constructed and tested
using the selected electronic components. The testing results indicated that the system performed
effectively, achieving 100% data retrieval accuracy with an average response time of
approximately 1.4 to 2.2 seconds for detecting identification tags and displaying emergency
information. The constructed system successfully demonstrated its ability to store, retrieve, and
display essential personal and medical information such as the victim’s name, blood group,
medical condition, and emergency contact number. The results confirmed that the proposed system
can significantly assist emergency responders by providing quick access to critical medical
information during accident situations. In conclusion, the developed emergency data information
system provides a reliable and efficient technological solution for improving accident response
and medical decision-making. The system demonstrates the potential application of embedded
systems and identification technologies in enhancing emergency healthcare services and public
safety. Future improvements may include integration with centralized medical databases, GPS
location tracking, mobile application support, and cloud-based data storage to further enhance
system functionality and accessibility
